My Daughter Hid My Car Keys In Her Teddy Bear, And The Note Inside Saved My Life

The night my eight-year-old daughter hid my car keys inside her teddy bear was the night I finally met the man I had become. And I hated him.

My name is Walter Hensley. I am fifty now, but this story begins four years ago, in a small brick house on Maple Street in Cedar Falls, Ohio. Back then, I was a ghost wearing a father’s face.

I hadn’t always been that way. There was a time when I was the man everyone in town trusted with their hands and their homes. I owned a woodworking shop off Main Street, and folks would drive from three counties over just to have me build their kitchen cabinets or repair a grandfather clock their great-grandmother left behind.
