My Daughter-in-Law Tried to Put Me in a Nursing Home Until She Saw My Will

I came home from my weekly doctor’s appointment on a Tuesday afternoon.

It was the middle of May. The sun was warm on my shoulders.

I remember thinking how beautiful the roses looked along the walkway. Martha planted them thirty summers ago.

When I turned the corner toward my front porch, I saw Jessica’s car in the driveway.

A brand new white Mercedes SUV.

She only visits when she wants something.

I sighed and walked up the steps slowly. My hip has been acting up lately. The doctor said it’s just arthritis. Part of getting old.

“Henry!” she called out, her voice too cheerful. “There you are! I’ve been waiting forever.”
