I’ll never forget the sound of those babies crying.

Their wails cut through me like glass, two tiny voices desperate for comfort I could barely give.

My arms were wrapped around them, but my wrists were bound to the mahogany headboard with strips of linen that dug into my skin every time I moved.

The yellow latex gloves I still wore squeaked with each tiny shift, a sound that made me feel even more like a prisoner.
